According to de Oliveira & Montenegro Valls (2008), this species should take the earlier name P. lepton. The specific epithet was originally published as P. leptos but the spelling often has been changed to P. lepton. This species may also be able to hybridize with P. plicatulum (Costa Huber 2015).
