Description Annual shrub 3 ft. tall; corolla lavender; fruit broadly pear-shaped, dark blackish purple, -8 in. long at maturity; cv. "Black Beauty" is an heirloom cultivar considered one of the earliest larg-fruited varieties, originally knnown as 'Imperial Black Beauty'. It was developed in the late 19th century by crossing 'Black Pekin' and "Large Early Purple', and was introduced by Burpee in 1902.
