Description | Common but scattered herbaceous perennial 50 cm tall; stem smooth, with milky sap, reddish green in color; leaves opposite, elliptic, with oblique bases, leaf margins denticulate, stipules present, 1-1.5 mm long; flowers small, cup-like cyathia, lacking petals and sepals, forming stalked, axillary clusters; capsules 3-lobed and glabrous. |
Habitat | Disturbed edge of mesic flatwoods forest; associates include Chamaesyce hyssopifolia, Chamaecrista fasciculata, Andropogon glomeratus, Heterotheca subaxillaris, Ipomoea hederacea, and Eupatorium leptophyllum. |
