Locality USA. North Carolina , Yancey Co. : Mount Mitchell State Park; just below summit of Mount Mitchell near uppermost parking lot, end of C-1281, along trail to summit, N of Blue Ridge Parkway. 35° 45' 57" N 82° 15' 56" W
Description Dominant small tree, 4-8 m tall; branches broken off top of trees by ice storms; cone axes and young male ones.
Habitat Metamorphic rock; Fraser fir-red sprice forest.
