Ward (2014) cast doubt on the distinction between plants with anise scent and 4 fertile stamens (as C. anisata) and plants with lemon scent and 2 fertile stamens (as C. punctata) (Pierson et al. 2006). Collinsonia serotina was dismissed as an ambiguous name by Pierson (et al. 2006), but the name was formally typified by Ward (2014).
