TWINBERRY; SIMPSON'S STOPPER
**
An endemic taxon has been recognized, as variety simpsonii by Long (1970), which has larger flowers and inflorescences often with 7-14 flowers. In a revision of the genus, it was considered a synonym of M. fragrans, while an informal M. dugandii group of completely glabrous plants with inflorescences of 7-14 flowers in Colombia and Venezuela was noted (Grifo 1992).
