Oxalis corniculata L.
COMMON YELLOW WOODSORREL; CREEPING WOODSORREL
**
This species concept encompasses entities that can be recognized as distinct species, i.e. O. dillenii (rhizomatous and sometimes taproot-like, stems 2-8, densely strigose to strigillose, erect to prostrate, sometimes rooting at nodes, flowers 1-8 in cymes), O. florida (stoloniferous, stems usually single, subglabrous to moderately strigose or pilose-villous, erect to rarely decumbent, rarely rooting at nodes, flowers 1-6 in cymes), O. stricta (rhizomatous, stems 1-3, villous, erect to decumbent, rarely rooting at nodes, flowers 1-15 in cymes), and O. corniculata s.str. (taprooted, stems several, sparsely strigose to villous, repent, rooting at nodes and stolon-like, flowers 1-6 in cymes) (see Nesom 2009). These entities appear to be variably interfertile (Lovett Doust et al. 1985). Ploidy levels are quite diverse in the group (Vaio et al. 2013). Based on ITS data, samples identifed as O. dillenii and O. stricta from Austria and a sample of O. fontana from Korea formed a clade sister to a clade of samples of O. corniculata from across the world (Vaio et al. 2013).
