Ludwigia grandiflora (Michx.)Greuter & Burdet
LARGEFLOWER PRIMROSEWILLOW
**
This species has been divided into two entities, L. grandiflora s.str. (hexaploid) and L. hexapetala (decaploid). They are morphologically difficult to separate (Nesom & Kartesz 2000) and octoploid hybrids between the two have been reported (Zardini et al. 1991). When two entities are recognized, the application of the name L. grandiflora to plants having mostly lanceolate leaf blades appears to conflict with the type specimens of L. grandiflora that have spatulate and oblanceolate leaf blades. Spatulate and oblanceolate leaf blades were considered to be representative of L. hexapetala (Zardini et al. 1991; Nesom & Kartesz 2000). Although Michaux (1803, vol. 1: 267) represents an early observation for L. grandiflora in Georgia, it is probably not native to the USA (Ward 2012: 476; Grewell et al. 2016). It was naturalized in Florida by 1966 (D'Arcy 990, FLAS).
