This species is characterized by basal leaf blades being usually auriculate, cordate (Wang et al. 2016), to truncate with teeth around the base of the blade. It is often confused with K. x houghtonii, and both taxa have dark-mottled leaf undersides. Often, K. daigremontiana is misapplied to K. laetevirens (Shaw 2008).

This is a triploid hybrid that was made by Arthur D. Houghton in San Fernando, California. Seeds were produced using pollen of the tetraploid K. delagoensis to pollinate the diploid K. daigremontiana (Houghton 1935; Baldwin 1949). Houghton tentatively considered the name Bryophyllum tubimontanum, nom. inval.
