Description:Locally common tree to 25 m, DBH to 65 cm; bark light to medium gray, tightly reticulate-ridged, the ridges rounded and smoothish; leaflets on fruiting branchlets 5-7, but 9 leaflet leaves common elsewhere; fruiting abundantly (mostly dropped), fruits subterminal on branchlets, brownish-green, slightly ridged, to ca. 4 cm long by 3.5 cm thick, slightly obovoid; husk ca. 5 mm thick, not seen to dehisce on tree (dehisced ones seen on and collected from ground). 
Habitat:Hardwood slope forest in small ravine with Carya glabra, Liquidambar, Quercus nigra, Fagus, Tilia, Celtis, Ulmus americana, and much Asimina triloba.
