Description:Shrublets 0.3-0.4 m tall, stems green, to 0.5 cm in diameter, tan, mostly smooth; fruit held erect on flat-topped to arching branches on top of plant, green with red at tip, a few turning ripe, swelling to 1.1 cm in diameter, juicy purple-black. 
Habitat:Flat, sandy, pole-size Pinus palustris, maintained by prescribed burning, brushy (especially along lower portion), with Lyonia lucida, Vaccinium corymbosum, Gaylussacia mosieri, Hypericum microsepalum, Itea virginica, Serenoa repens, Pteridium aquilinum.
