Dominated by a canopy of Magnolia , Liquidambar, Fraxinus tomentosa [F. caroliniana] Ulmus, Acer, Tilia [americana var.] caroliniana and a few Taxodium with a thin understory of Carpinus and Itea. Canopy sufficiently open to allow a good herbaceous cover including Rhynchospora, Thelypteris palustris [var. pubescens], Boehmeria, Juncus, Saururus, Hydrocotyle, Aster caroliniensis [Sypmhyotrichum carolinianum], Ruellia, Melanthera and Hygrophila.

Habitat:Low-lying swamp forest. Associated species include Taxodium distichum. Liquidambar styraciflua, Quercus nigra, Magnolia grandiflora, Ilex glabra, Itea virginica, Vaccinium corymbosum, Serenoa repens, Sabal minor, Rhynchospora sp., Saururus cernuus, Carex sp.
