Description:Spiny dense shrub 2.5 m tall, bark brown and thin; leaves glandular punctate, aromatic; fruit black with clear sap. 
Habitat:Sand dunes formerly with overstory of Juniperus virginiana and Sabal palmetto, these replaced by Schinus and Casuarina; understory shrubs consisting of natives (Coccoloba, Randia, and Eugina) and exotics.
