Description:Shrub 3.5 m tall, 3.3 cm in diameter, the rings difficult to count, with few stems in a tight clump; bark tight, lenticellate, brown; flowers white, with musty odor like many Rosaceae, with masses of small white flowers in an inflorescence. 
Habitat:Low area with tall forest, Acer rubrum, Nyssa biflora, a few Taxodium, very few Pinus, the understory of Vacciniuim corymbosu, Cyrilla racemiflora, and Cartrema americanum.
