Description:Common shrub to 0.2-0.5 m tall, some plants with numerous branches arching from ground level, but others with a short erect trunk, and then branching; young flowers initially greenish, then turning dull red at maturity; this species in both pine plantation and adjacent sandhhills. 
Habitat:Cleared young pine plantation and adjacent edge of swamp of Taxodium ascendens and adjacent sandhills (with Quercus geminata and Q. laevis); sandy soils.
