Description:Shrub 4.5 m tall, 1.9 cm in diameter, 10 years old; bark shallowly furrowed, gray-brown; young inflorescences reddish, a few old dry brittle fruiting inflorescences present.

Description:Shrub 4 m tall, stems to at least 14 cm in diameter here; bark reddish brown, finely furrowed, flaky, the stem for wood specimen 3 cm in diameter. 
Habitat:Low area with tall forest of Acer rubrum, Nyssa biflora, a few Taxodium, very few Pinus, the understory of Vaccinium corymbosum, Cyrilla racemiflora, Cartrema americana, and a very few patches of Sphagnum.
