Description: | Uncommon herbaceous annual or short-lived perennial, trailing on the ground and to ca. 35-40 cm [dm?] tall; stem pubescent; leaves alternate, trifoliate, the leaflets entire, ovate to lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, upper surface glabrous, lower surface strigose; flowers [inflorescence] axillary, flowers in terminal racemes, papilionate, deep red to purple, the wing petals longer than the others; fruit dehiscent, linear, several seeded. |
Habitat: | Disturbed edge of a slash pine [Pinus elliottii] forest; associates include Eupatorium leptophyllum, Mimosa strigillosa, Centella asiatica, Wahlenbergia marginata, and several grasses. |
