Description:Grass with hairy pointed leaves with sheaths clasping the culms; perennial and tufted root system from which many decumbent culms radiate to form a dense tangled mass patches characterised by the pretty purple effect of the wide hut fine panicles. 
Habitat:Growing on deep well drained shale soil in open grassland previously under Brachystegia spiciformis and Uapaca kirkiana.
