Description: | Vine, wild, not cultivated; flowers nearly odorless, but with slight (especially in females) "sweet, cucumber-like" odor; corolla light yellow, the midribs yellow-green; anthers and stigma yellow; fruit still slightly soft, bitter, light green-green mottled and striped, nearly globose, the largest one 9 cm diameter, slightly longer; fruit said to have been used in poorer and more backward times for soap, not eaten because bitter. |
