This species extends to the neotropics (Yang & Berry 2011), but was reported as a Florida endemic in FNA (vol. 12). Formerly included in the genus Chamaesyce, this species is reclassified under Euphorbia subg. Chamaesyce sect. Anisophyllum subsect. Hypericifoliae.
