Formerly in Oldenlandia, this species has been placed in the genus Edrastima, together with O. angolensis, O. goreensis, and O. trinervia. Edrastima is characterized as annual herbs with a beaked capsule and is far removed from Oldenlandia s.s. (Guo et al. 2013; Neupane et al. 2015).
