Liparis is undergoing revision and this species has been put into the genus Diteilis (Jones & Clements 2005; Li & Yan 2013; Tang et al. 2015). The type of Liparis and a separate clade of epiphytic Liparis are not the closest relatives of Diteilis (Kumer et al. 2022).
